  • Essay / Teenage Pregnancy - 2071

Teenage girls take many risks when deciding to have a child at a young age. The baby, as well as the parents, may face long-term problems related to pregnancy. These problems may include academic failure, poverty, and physical or mental illness. Babies born to teenage girls are at greater risk of neglect and abuse than those born to women. Teenage mothers may feel like they are being asked to do this work and may take out their frustration on the child (When 2000). There is evidence that traditional approaches to reducing teenage pregnancy rates, such as sex education classes or better sexual health services, are not effective on their own. (DiCenso. 2004) This research has led to increased interest in the effects of interventions targeting the social disadvantage associated with early pregnancy and parenthood. Social disadvantage refers to social and economic difficulties such as poverty, unemployment and discrimination, and is distributed unevenly based on socio-demographic characteristics such as ethnicity, socio-economic position, education level and place of residence. (Anand, 2006) Being a teenage parent affects not only the parent but also the child. Children from homes headed by teenage mothers face almost insurmountable obstacles in life. Incidents of depression and mental health problems, lack of father figures, and high poverty rates often linked to children living in households headed by teenage mothers put them at a serious disadvantage compared to children raised in nuclear families. Many people believe that the implementation of sex education in schools and the addition of increased federal aid to single parents are the main causes of the country's high rate of teen pregnancy...... middle from the article...... encouraged to finish school if possible. This will increase the chances of getting a well-paid job. There are programs that help teen mothers complete college and graduate, such as homeschooling and online classes. It is also important that parents and community support encourage these adolescents to set realistic goals for their lives and give them something to look forward to. It's important for them to know that it's not the end of the world and that they can get through this and go far with the love and support of their family. Many adolescents are left behind because their families abandon them. It's one of the worst things you can do to them. They are already scared and lonely and when their support system withdraws it can cause major problems for them and possibly the baby too..
