  • Essay / Agricultural economics, the field I want to pursue...

Statement of PurposeMy first exposure to economics came from my father, a logistics manager. The interesting stories he told me about his work stimulated my curiosity and passion for economics. At the same time, I observed the outdated and inefficient technology they use to make decisions and hoped that one day I could solve the problems. The first agricultural economics course I took at Purdue was Microeconomics for Food and Agribusiness, taught by Dr. Frank Dooley. His heuristic teaching style and fabulous content brought me to the world of agricultural economics. I discovered that enormous principles of life can be explained through these fundamental economic concepts, such as diminishing utility and opportunity cost. Agricultural economics has truly broadened my horizons. Applied Econometrics, by Dr James Eales, quickly increased my interest due to the combination of mathematics; statistics and economics were used to prove theories in which I found stronger and greater meaning. My attention to mathematics, reflected by my participation in Mathematical Olympiad courses with high scores for six years, served as a springboard for the study of econometrics. Therefore, I doubled down on my major in Applied Agricultural Economics, which means I have to try harder to study than others. And I earned excellent grades in all agricultural economics courses, as well as a minor in food and agribusiness management. I value my horticultural training as a great support for my research in agricultural economics since I am intimately familiar with the biological characteristics and production cycles of crops. My research interest was clarified while studying agricultural prices and firm decision techniques. I studied a simulated product, once on...... middle of paper ......nesses. I read meticulously but slowly, which makes it difficult to get points in the tense and time-limited verbal test. I am willing to give myself enough time to finish reading. As an undergraduate, I was still a successful student although I read more slowly and I do not believe this will hinder my success in graduate school. Overall, with my personality and academic abilities, I believe that my interest in the field of agricultural economics can make me suitable and very dedicated in the research life ahead. If I am admitted to the program, I will choose the thesis option and master deeper and more professional knowledge. After obtaining my master's degree, I hope to pursue a doctoral degree to prepare myself as a professor or researcher after my schooling. I greatly appreciate your kind consideration for my application and it will be an important step in my life..
