Human cloning is a new biological technology developed at an astonishing rate over the past thirty years. Debates about human cloning attract a lot of attention, because its development will affect the entire future of human beings. Cloning technology is still in its infancy and is still being tested on animals. Furthermore, this technology has been pushed or held back by economic, political, military and moral factors. Human cloning in this trial only represents therapeutic cloning and reproductive cloning of children. To be more specific, this essay will discuss two benefits of human cloning, namely therapeutic cloning in curing diseases and reproductive cloning in creating new children, and two challenges regarding health risk and risk of social value. One of the benefits of human cloning is curing diseases. People can survive life-threatening illness through therapeutic cloning, such as stem cell cloning and gene cloning. It has been realized that patient-specific embryonic stem cells (ESCs), which have the capacity to self-renew through mitotic cell division, can be created by cloning (Cyranoski, 2013; Damle, 2012). According to Damle (2012), stem cells can be cultured and transformed into specialized cells that make up various tissues, such as muscles, nerves and the heart. Thus, people suffering from heart disease, kidney aggravation or other organ diseases, can transplant tissues without incompatibility or waiting for donation. Additionally, the anticancer strategy can be improved by gene cloning. For example, in mouse models of prostate cancer, cloning of a mormal prostate-derived cDNA library into vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) results in an increased cure rate of up to 80% ( Fleming, 2011). In therapeutic terms, the use of cloning to cure diseases should be continually developed and used, although problems with success rates and lifespan currently pose obstacles. However, the laws of countries should prohibit reproductive cloning like child cloning, because child cloning harms the respectability of human life. It is therefore wise to precisely regulate cloning technology and encourage therapeutic cloning while prohibiting reproductive cloning..
