    Technological advancements over the past few decades have undoubtedly changed the way today's society functions as a whole. People are more dependent on computers and the Internet than ever before, so their prevalence in life in general has been greatly inflated. However, such a large and important tool could never escape the regulation of government authorities. Government censorship of the Internet has been an extremely controversial issue, even since the time "net neutrality" was first discussed. Governments generally advocate the use of censorship with the aim of discouraging and prohibiting access to inappropriate material and other harmful practices, but further extend the scope of their censorship to affect many other facets of 'Internet; including politically sensitive documents and discussions. There are several techniques that can be used to restrict content deemed offensive by a government. This means that authorities in a given country can effectively restrict access to any material they deem offensive. This is almost inevitable for the affected citizens and the resources available to their Internet are therefore quite limited by these restrictions. As the Internet has become a very valuable resource, people are unhappy with its restrictions. There have been many protests and backlash against internet censorship across the world. The morality of Internet censorship has been repeatedly questioned because it stifles – in many cases – freedom of speech and expression, while limiting the resources available to the public. ConclusionThe purpose of this report was to prove that internet censorship has a detrimental effect on society. Governments and censorship groups claim to be able to justify this use for certain purposes, but frequently resort to censorship for much more personal reasons. Censorship has many different implementations and can be used in many different facets of the Internet, but instilling fear of being censored is the most effective censorship tool governments can use. The public has become accustomed to the Internet as a resource and tool and has fought tirelessly against its restrictions and limitations. Internet censorship is not very morally sound, because it harms Internet users far more than it can help them. Censorship restricts the knowledge – and therefore the potential – of its victims.
