The news article I chose to write about is a US News article by Rachel Pomerance Berl titled Meds or No Meds? How to treat a child with ADHD. This article discusses ADHD and how many Americans are affected by the disorder, as well as when to treat or not treat a patient who claims to have ADHD. This disorder affects the way people concentrate, causes excessive activity and poor impulse control. ADHD can often begin to affect the individual's life if the disorder is not properly treated. This disorder may begin to create problems when involved in situations that are structured or require prolonged attention. However, a common concern that many experts must remain cautious about is when or not to administer ADHD medication, as the child's or adult's parents may have other motivations, such as wanting the medication improves their skills and abilities to beat their competition. Over the past two years, the number of Americans with ADHD has increased significantly. ADHD has become a hot topic of public discussion, leading to increasing attention and concern. The way medical professionals treat and ensure they treat ADHD patients correctly is to thoroughly evaluate the patient. As this disorder became more well known, more parents became aware and realized that their students' poor academic performance or behavior problems may not have been intentional. In today's high stress and in the society of the past, many feel constant pressures and daily anxiety to be the best and do better. Therefore, ADHD medications have various uses and continue to help patients suffering from various mental dysfunctions. Additionally, this article presents interesting points that have enhanced my understanding of the number of patients suffering from attention deficit disorder and the concerns that commonly arise.
