    The head of the executive power is a Prime Minister elected every 4 years. The current Prime Minister is Mark Rutte. The Prime Minister is the most important political figure in the Netherlands. He is the face of the government. The Prime Minister's responsibilities include coordinating policies, overseeing information services, acting as intermediary to the royal household, and overseeing all international affairs as well as the day-to-day management of government. The legislative power is made up of 2 chambers called parliament which has a 1st and 2nd chamber. The 1st chamber is responsible for questioning the council of ministers and secretaries of state and approving all bills from the second chamber before they become law. The members of the first chamber are elected by the legislators of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands. The 2nd house (considered the upper house) is responsible for initiating legislation (lawmaking) and amending bills. They are elected by popular vote. Both chambers have a term of 4 years. The judiciary consists of a Supreme Court called the Hoge Raad, made up of 41 judges divided into civil, criminal, fiscal and ombudsmen (judges who represent the public against judicial misconduct). All judges are appointed for life by the monarch. The judicial system is also divided between subordinate courts and appellate courts. The Supreme Court of the Netherlands does not rule on the constitutionality of a law but rules strictly on the laws contained in the constitution. There are no juries in the Netherlands, all cases are heard by the judiciary, and the constitution also does not provide for the death penalty. The economy of the Netherlands mainly consists of agriculture, fishing, paper trade... ..currently, however, the colors have changed to red, white and blue. This change was made because the color red was easier to see in combat. For a short time the flag was banned when Holland was ruled by France, but when Holland regained its freedom the flag was reinstated. Recently, conflicts in Holland have been rare.
