  • Essay / Swimming Reflection Paper - 785

My first semester I took sports medicine and anatomy and physiology. Both courses expanded my knowledge about the body and made me realize how interesting its mechanics are. It was before halfway through the semester that I knew for sure that I wanted to become a physical therapist. One factor about PT that interests me is that even though everyone has the same basic structure, everyone is different. No two patients are the same and so each injury is slightly different. The days may have similar foundations, such as similar types of injuries, but I could help a number of different types of people who need a variety of treatments. This is why PT is both a challenge and an interest for me. I will never do the exact same thing twice with a patient. Another aspect of PT that I enjoy is helping people. Although working with injured patients can be mentally and physically taxing, it is very rewarding to know that you are helping them by returning to their daily activities. By doing this, I feel like you are helping a patient become more of themselves again, which is very rewarding. If I can use the knowledge of human anatomy and its functions to help people, then I feel like I can give back to the world.
