  • Essay / Examples of violating social norms - 724

Not just because I was violating a norm, but because I wasn't interacting with my best friend's emotion for something that worried her. If I had to refuse to "mirror" nonverbal displays to strangers or people who aren't really close to me, I think I could have presented a more extreme case with the study. Yet, I realized that violating social norms could eventually lead to me losing the people with whom I violated social norms. Additionally, I had the impression that the outcome of refusing to “mirror” the image might depend on the closeness of the relationship between two. I think if the person whose emotions are being ignored is close to the person refusing to reflect, that person would be more likely to make an external attribution. On the other hand, if the person being ignored is not close to the other person, that person is more likely to create internal feelings.
