    Unlike alliteration, assonance is rarely used, appearing in only one stanza. In the second line of the fourth stanza, the repetition of the vowel "e", "Red war even redder...", indicates how much blood is still flowing because of useless wars and how incredibly one must be mad to be able to continue such bloodshed, as indicated by the vowel “a” repeated in the same line of the same stanza: “Mad as the hatters »....”.
