  • Essay / Cage Bird and How to Say Nothing in 500-783

To truly compare or justify something being superior to something else, you need to have more than one thing to compare it to. When I start revising narrative and descriptive essays, I need to try to understand what separates the two. I chose to compare “Caged Bird,” by Maya Angelou, as a descriptive essay and “How to Say Nothing in 500 Words,” by Paul McHenry Roberts, as a narrative essay. To me, these two essays stand out from each other, not only because of the different styles of writers, but also the meaningful message that was delivered in both essays. Although both of these essays convey a strong message, only one really holds my attention, answers all my questions, and helps me imagine every word in the text. In the text of “Essentials of College Writing,” it states: “Think about what might interest you as a reader and what kinds of details and information you are looking for when reading personal writing” (Connell, C.M. , & Sole, K., (2013), chapter 6. Section 6.2, paragraph 5). As a writer, I believe in grabbing the reader's attention, answering all their questions, and really helping them imagine what they're reading. Initially, I tended to favor the descriptive essay "The Caged Bird", written by Maya Angelou, but after much thought and criticism, I discovered that "How to Say Nothing in 500 Words", written by Paul McHenry Roberts won me over. on. This change of mind came to me as I reread each essay, and then there was a clear choice as to which essay was arguably the best style. To be considered a good descriptive essay, according to what I read in "Essentials of College Writing", a descriptive essay must use specific language, use a d...... middle of article... or future papers, whether narrative essays or not, this is a great approach that I think can improve my academic writing skills As I said earlier, these two essays convey. a strong message, but only one really holds my attention, answers all my questions and helps me imagine every word contained in the text It is clear that the narrative essay is superior to the descriptive because of all the details used for. prepare the story and the impact that the narrative essay has on the reader No one can deny that both are a good choice, but this narrative is actually better structured than the descriptive essay and it simply gives a feeling of. 'completion that you can sort of anticipate because of the way the narrative began. Once again, the narrative essay unquestionably meets all the reader's needs when reading it..
