    An individual can be an individual on the national scale of a situation, in the sensation of having an official legal connection with it, without subjectively feeling or psychologically part of this situation. On the other hand, an individual may feel tied to a situation without having any legitimate connection to it. For example, children who were brought to the United States illegally while very young and mature, without knowing their migrant's situation, often have a national identification with the American sensation, although they are legally individuals from their country of origin.
