  • Essay / Family structure and structure: family structure and value

My father's family leads an ancient, very colonial lifestyle, valuing family property and marriage. The family land served as a focus for parents' feelings of loyalty, solidarity, and continuity, and marriage was considered the well-being of the lineage. Farming and family care are essentially all they need in their lives. All people are valued and maintain a genealogical lineage through work and marriage, as their most precious possession. In contrast, my maternal family lives a richer life in the United States and has a different determination about the value of life. Modern life has created even more power distance between parents and children. Parents do not intervene much in their children's lives, but they allow them to make their own decisions and lifestyles.
