  • Essay / Equal pay for equal work - 1231

An argument concludes that while there may be pay inequality in a given workplace, equal pay has nothing to do with gender. Kate O'Beirne, an author who addresses the feminist movement, states in her novel: "The claim that women face widespread pay discrimination is a myth. ยป Instead, she argues that the idea is simply a tool used to boost the feminist movement. She argues that since the Equal Pay Act of 1963, it has been illegal for any company not to pay its female workers equally to its male workers if the latter are doing the same work. While this may be a valid argument, it doesn't mean that businesses won't break the law to take the cheaper route. It was found in 2014 that women who worked full time received 79% of what men earned. The gender gap has widened since the 1970s, but has since slowed. Progression does not mean resolution; the gap is not completely closed.
