  • Essay / Warren Harding - 1647

John Dean's biography Warren G. Harding was clearly written to challenge past criticism that Harding was the worst president of the United States. He argues that his incredible divine knowledge helped him become the 29th President of the United States of America, not just a confusing placement to run as the Republican Party's presidential candidate in 1920. His second major argument is to try to give some of the blame to his cabinet members, as Harding was often chastised for valuing the opinion of his cabinet members too much. Warren G. Harding begins with Harding's birth on November 2, 1865, the son of George Tyron Harding and Phoebe Elizabeth Dickerson. With Harding being Harding's first son and father studying medicine, Harding began to follow his father who developed his own practice, while working regularly on the family farm. In 1876, Tyron wanted to own the local newspaper, Caledonia Argus. While working as an apprentice with his father, Harding quickly gained an affinity for the world of journalism. When Harding was fourteen, he began studying at Ohio Central College in Iberia, Ohio in the fall semester of 1879. Harding liked all the ladies. around Iberia with his stature “already six feet tall, with an olive complexion, blue eyes and wavy black hair.” (Dean, Print). At college, Harding roomed with Frank Harris, who was left speechless by the fact that Warrant rarely studied and passed all his classes with apparent ease. Philosophy and literature were Harding's favorite subjects and he was constantly seen reading "the masters of English prose". With subjects he didn't like, he would ignore them until it was the critical hour of an important exam, and he would binge all night with his books until he understood them. . When...... middle of paper...... $0 million from the federal government throughout the Veterans Affairs scandal. Another scandal due to Harding's unpopular appointed officials working under him. It was no one's fault but his own that he engaged in business while married in Florence. He has no one to blame but only himself for matters. Even though Carrie Phillips was considered the prettiest woman in Marion, that gives no reason for a man to cheat on his wife. Stupidly, Harding was seeing another woman while sneaking around with Carrie while Florence suffered from her floating kidney. Harding deserves all his contempt for this affair. Business and trust issues don't fully qualify Harding as the worst president in history. He arrived much loved and died loved. Harding only received his bad image after his death, when affairs and scandals arose. Works Cited Warren G. Harding by John W. Dean
