Fast Food and Personal ResponsibilityA response to Ninos P. MalekFast food is one of the most controversial topics; Most people tend to blame the fast food industries because of their obesity or a disease they contracted, and never take responsibility for their own actions. In this article "Fast Food and Personal Responsibility" (2003) written by Ninos P. Malek, Malek tries to argue and show people that it is not entirely the fault of the fast food industries that people are obese or sick. He argues using 3 different examples to support it: He first says that “high school students blame their poor diet on the school cafeteria” (Malek, 2003, p. 309). Most students tend to do this, but in reality, most cafeterias sell healthy and unhealthy foods, but people always need something to blame and never hold themselves accountable for their own actions. Second, he says no one puts people at gunpoint to get them to buy quickly. food (2003, p.309). This is actually true, but he still forgot to mention the fact that they are trying to brainwash people into buying their food through their false advertisements. Third and last, Malek tries to compare smoking to fast food, because at the time, tobacco companies were also being sued for almost the same reasons, namely health. Malek's argument was accurate because people need to learn to take responsibility for their own actions and know that when they buy fast food, they weigh their own costs and benefits. But he didn't show the immoral and unethical things that fast food industries do by using faulty advertisements. Fast food industries should not be held responsible for this because everyone has freedom of choice and can choose to eat it or not....... middle of paper ...... product aimed at children promising these toys and gifts for children and you can even find games inside some of these fast food restaurants that attract children. Because of what they are doing, one in six children are obese, parents should be blamed, but it is still the fast food industries that are selling this product and marketing it to these children. I just believe everyone has a choice. You don't have to eat fast food and if you can't stop eating it, just try eating less. Don't blame the fast food industries for your lack of discipline. If you hate what they do, just get disbarred. You know it's bad for you, you know it will ultimately harm your well-being; you know it can kill you, but you eat it anyway and then blame something or someone else. It's not fair, but then again, neither is life..
