  • Essay / Incandescent Artist - 796

“The spirit of an artist, to achieve the prodigious effort of releasing the whole and entire work that is within him [no particular genre], must be incandescent” (Woolf 56) . It is important for fiction writers to remain anonymous in every way possible, even androgynous. The reason is to keep their work free from bias in general and the opposite sex. This involves keeping their opinions hidden, so they can get their overall message across. This allows the audience to form their own judgment on the material. The writer's goal is to attract readers without imposing their own beliefs on them. If an author starts rambling about how the other gender has oppressed them, their gender will be revealed. In works of fiction, it is crucial that the author makes himself invisible: incandescent, so to speak. When men write fiction, they must remember to make their work accessible to all who read it. “Do what she will, a woman cannot find in them that fountain of perpetual life which critics assure her is there” (Woolf 100). It is often a challenge for men to include women in their daily world of success. Men know the facts because they have access to education. However, it is important for men not to offend anyone, including women. If men do not include women in their work, the female audience will stop reading and will not fully understand the theme. Men of fiction should follow in the footsteps of how Shakespeare wrote his literature. He was creative about the topics he covered; “hence his poetry flows from him freely and unhindered” (Woolf 56). He's not imposing any facts on anyone, he's just getting his message across. The artist must give free rein to her thoughts, without filter, which is in the middle of the paper...... aphes where she praises the work of men. “If ever a mind was incandescent, unfettered, I thought, as I turned toward the library, it was the mind of Shakespeare” (Woolf 56). The message that Woolf is offering is that fiction writers should write without their own opinion being mentioned. When their judgment is introduced, it does not give readers the opportunity to adopt their own point of view. Additionally, their work could possibly offend the opposite sex. It is therefore essential for writers not to consider their own gender. In doing so, at least the authors' views remain hidden. The author's most important goal is to convey his theme, but in an appropriate manner. This ensures that the work of fiction remains incandescent, as well as a masterpiece.
