  • Essay / Statement of Intent - 1077

It is often said that necessity is the mother of invention and that technology is driven by need. It is therefore technology that gives birth to an invention. Engineers nurture technology, so it is their role to bring about lasting technological change. The machines and mechanization that enable this technological progress have always fascinated me. I first discovered a machine, my bicycle, when I was in 7th grade. I became interested in the bicycle mechanism once when the chain slipped on the sprocket. The effort I put into setting this up and also replacing the worn friction pads on the brakes piqued my interest in the machines. I scored 91.23% in my 10th grade exams and then opted for a vocational subject, mechanical maintenance. As part of the program, I was exposed to rudimentary lathes and milling machines. I started doing small jobs on these machines as well as doing adjustment work on vices from the age of 16. My grade 12 exams placed me among the top 10 students at my college. I obtained 90% in the exams and 192/200 in Mechanical Maintenance. The AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam) 2009 placed me among the top 3 percent of 100,000 students who took the exam. The four years of my undergraduate studies allowed me to discover in depth the different specialties available in mechanical engineering, thus stimulating my interest in advanced research. I faced a temporary setback during the second year of my engineering studies when I was unable to pass a practical exam. test for the subject IC ENGINE. I viewed this as an opportunity to study this topic again, this time in more depth. I successfully completed this practical exercise in my next attempt and over the next two years as an engine contractor...... middle of paper ...... determined entrepreneur and at the same time I continue to contribute to the field of operational research and industrial automation. My immediate goal is to pursue a master's degree in industrial engineering. I am aware of the kind of dedication, perseverance and determination I need to have a successful career as an industrial engineer. I believe my journey has not only qualified me technically but also given me the right mindset for such a career. An assistantship, in addition to providing financial support, would give me valuable research experience and put me in a good position in my career. I would like to affirm that I will make full use of all opportunities given to me, pursue my goals with wholehearted dedication, and live up to the high standards set by Texas A&M University. I sincerely hope that my application for admission will be favorably received..
