    Adaptation to climate change is defined as the set of measures taken in response to changes in local and regional climatic conditions (Smit et al., 2000). Adaptation to climate change simply means reducing the vulnerability of people's lives and livelihoods to the risks posed by climate change. Agricultural adaptation measures can be categorized into policy level interventions, technology development and farm level management practices. The Government of Sri Lanka, recognizing the importance of adaptation to climate change, has taken a number of initiatives at the policy level to address climate change concerns and among the initiatives; the most important is the recently formulated national climate change adaptation strategy. The national climate change adaptation strategy is structured into five strategic areas, the third of which focuses on minimizing the impacts of climate change on food security (NCCAS, 2010).
