    The Chronicle of the French Occupation, 1798 – Napoleon in Egypt, was written by the scholar and jurist of Egyptian origin, Abd al-Rahman al- Jabarti (c. 1753-c.1825) between 1798 and 1801, supervising the French occupation of Egypt. By the end of the 17th century, the Middle East and Europe were in a state of redefinition. Although the chronicle only covered the brief period of the first seven months of 36, it constitutes a crucial account. A paradigmatic shift from a modern culture to an antiquated system with a chronicle of events that oscillates between something merely observational and something written by an emotionally charged spectator is clearly illustrated. Although the work has been widely accepted, there is still speculation about degrees of censorship and possible omissions in various translations. The French occupation was a confrontation between exported modernity and an old regime: the French revolutionaries and their domination of the Ottoman social order. the contrast is clearly different; and al-Jabarti gives an account of how it is transmitted from one culture to another. Levels of contestation, overt and/or covert acceptances give way to losses and gains driven by strong emotion – even for this writer. He “describes very carefully each stage of the negotiation of the organization of society, from administration to inheritance, from property to charity or from justice to deliberation. » Al-Jabarti's accounts were written with a criticism and tone that lacked very little neutrality. The questioning of Napoleon's sincerity is clearly described. They did not believe that a Christian could be a redeemer of Islam and were extremely suspicious of him.
