What is life? Why are people different? These are questions I have longed to know the answers to since I was young. When I look at people's characteristics, I generally think that some traits are inherited, while others are caused by environmental factors. For human diseases, I would like to know the relative contributions of genetics and environment. Is a disease caused by a pathogenic microorganism, a toxic agent present in the environment or a defective gene? My interest in molecular biology was inspired by these questions and led me to the world of genetics. When I was an elementary school student, my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer. From this situation I developed an insatiable curiosity for cancer and molecular medicine. I am particularly interested in the structure and function of genes and the genetic analysis of cancer, a large group of diseases that constitute a significant health problem in my country, Thailand. I hope to be able to understand and identify the causes of genetic diseases that help people in my country live happy and healthy lives. To fulfill such aspirations, I believe that a master's program in biology, particularly in cancer biology, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, will significantly improve my academic level. The program I have chosen will allow me to fulfill my desire to expand my knowledge, pursue a career in the field of medical sciences and provide me with the opportunity to help solve community health problems in Thailand . The most important evidence I cite to prove my qualifications as a worthy candidate is my college and undergraduate academic education.
