Robert Frost is one of America's most beloved and respected poets. He did a great job of capturing the hearts of his readers through his natural imagery and ability to use metaphors to reveal the truths he was trying to convey. Frost's life was filled with many struggles, including several losses in his family. His initial difficulties would continue throughout his period of study, as he would not obtain his university degree. Frost traveled to Britain to gain some ideas about poetry, then returned to America to begin writing again (Famous Poets and Poems 1). He will experience great success and win numerous awards and distinctions for his work. The purpose of this research project is to educate the reader about the biographical information of Robert Frost, his writing career, the awards and honors he was able to achieve, and Frost's writing style. Biographically, Robert Frost's life followed the same pattern that many American authors also followed: early struggles and heartaches in the face of prestige and fame. Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, California, to William Prescott Frost Jr., a journalist and passionate democrat, and Isabelle Moodie, of Scottish descent. Robert Lee Frost is named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. When Frost was two years old, his mother took him and ran away to Lawrence, Massachusetts, to escape her husband, who had drinking and gambling problems. In Lawrence, Isabelle Moodie had a second child, named Jeanie Florence. While the family still resided in Lawrence, Robert Frost's father died of tuberculosis when Frost was eleven. After doing the research necessary to write a research paper, it was easy to connect the events of Frost's life to the themes and concepts in his writings. Because Frost did not necessarily associate himself with a certain literary movement, he was able to break the mold and write in his own way. At first his works were not as widely accepted, but later Frost accrued the widespread recognition he deserved. Frost was able to accumulate a large sum of awards and was often considered the best poet of the 20th century.
