The surgery is basically the same as the other, but this one aims to treat glaucoma. During the operation, the eye is numb so there is little or no pain. Then the doctor directs a special beam into the eye, it is a bright light, like a flash from a camera. There are many types of surgeries to treat glaucoma, but the main one we will learn about is argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT). This is a treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma. The laser grain in this case is used to open the fluid channels of the eye, assist the drainage system and in many cases medication may be required. Usually, half of the fluidic channels are processed first. The other half can in most cases be completed during the same visit. This method avoids overcorrection and has a success rate of 75% of patients successfully treated to lower eye pressure.
