    The learning experience affects teachers and students as they are each transformed and influenced by each other. Positive learning experiences affirm the career choices of the teacher and student, while a negative experience diminishes the career choices of the teacher and student, which may ultimately lead them to leave the profession. Positive engagement creates a transformative learning experience, equipping students for future work. For Palmer (1998), good teaching cannot be reduced to technique. Good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher. Palmer (1998) defined identity as an evolving bond where all the forces that constitute a person's life converge in the mystery of the self (p. 13) and wholeness as the wholeness within the bond while its vectors form and reform the pattern of one's life.
