    Subsidies for Dumping and Trade DisputesToo many questions have been asked about whether the dumping involved unfair trade practices. Recently, disputes over dumping make it difficult to decide whether or not to allow this activity to enter our country. Many of us also know that increased foreign imports mean more jobs are destroyed in American industries. It is for this particular reason that members of the WTO and GATT have worked together to determine whether there is a link between dumping and unfair trade. In their study, some found that dumping benefits the economy and helps increase competition among various industries in the United States. However, others have also taken the opposite side, arguing that dumping is an unreasonable trade practice and can harm the U.S. economy. future. If dumping truly affects trade and costs jobs in the United States, then what measures are needed to prevent this practice and help maintain fair trade in the global economy. In section 771(34) of the Act (19 USC 1677(34)) “dumping is defined as the sale or probable sale of goods at less than their fair value” (Beckman, Discrimination and Dumping – page Web). Simply put, dumping is selling a product in the United States for less than the price at which it is sold domestically after adjustments for differences in the merchandise, the quantities purchased, and the circumstances of the sale. For example, Japanese exports of digital cameras to the United States at lower prices than their home country; if this practice can be justified, then Japan is guilty of dumping. But the question that concerns us here is whether Japanese dumping brings any benefits to our economy.
