  • Essay / The disadvantages of technology exposed in Fahrenheit 451, by...

Technology; the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., to invent useful things or to solve problems. It is astonishing how technologies significantly affect the ability of humans and other animal species to control and adapt to their natural environments. This has affected us so much that we use technology for alternative purposes; Entertainment. However, can it improve human conditions or make them worse? In the book Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury describes the negative ways technology could ruin our lives in alternative ways. Technology could create an overly stimulated lifestyle and no one would have time to think or concentrate. It can rule us and control our minds, but worse still, it can replace humanity. Ray Bradbury's overall message/opinion on Fahrenheit 451 is how bad technology is for alternative means for people. Ray Bradbury believes that the presence of technology creates a lifestyle with too much stimulation that prevents people from thinking. Technology distracts us from people who live in nature. Clarisse describes to Montag what her uncle told her about his old age. “No porches,” my uncle said. “There were porches. And people would sometimes sit up at night, talking when they wanted to talk and not talking when they didn’t want to talk. Sometimes they would sit there and think about things are over.” (Bradbury 63) Clarisse goes on to tell Montag that: “The architects got rid of the porches because they didn't look good. But my uncle said that was just a rationalization; the real reason hidden underneath might be that they didn't do it. I wanted people to have the wrong type of social life. People talked too much and they had time to think. (Bradbury 63) this explains how in the middle of a paper...... towards her, not bent over with worry, but only standing with his arms crossed. And he remembers thinking then that if she died, he was sure he wouldn't cry. Therefore, technology is bad for people because it replaces humanity. As you can see, technology plays an important role in our lives in Montag's society and in our society too. You see, technology is an antagonist of nature because. This gives us too much tittivation. It manipulates our minds and changes who we are. Therefore, Ray Bradbury's overall message/opinion on Fahrenheit 451 shows how bad technology is for alternative means for people.
