  • Essay / An Essay on Oprah Winfrey - 1240

As African American women, our group chose Oprah Winfrey because she is one of the most inspiring and influential African American women known throughout the world entire. Even though people know her name and know that she is one of the richest women in America, very few know her story. To know about Ms. Winfrey, you have to research her very interesting biography. Oprah's success did not come by chance. She had to work hard and overcome many obstacles, and she had to do it all alone. Oprah has many inspiring sayings, such as: “Victory, belief, wisdom, life, integrity, choice and celebration” (Brain Quotes). “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength” (Brain Quotes) as well as “Right now, you are just one choice away from a new beginning, one that will will lead to becoming the most complete human being you can be,” which has proven to be the most meaningful and impactful for us as a group. Even though the quote is small, it has so much meaning. We also believe this represents her impact as she has helped so many people around the world, through her words and, more importantly, her actions. Oprah Winfrey is not only an inspiration to women of color; she is an inspiration to women around the world. Another equally inspiring and impactful quote is “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength”. This quote has to be one of our favorite quotes. This is to say because it applies to reality. It’s true that if you don’t fight against something, you won’t get better. We think everyone should apply this quote to their daily lives. This also gives an example of his life growing up. As a child, Oprah struggled, but now she's doing larger things that shed light on that struggle. She even travels the world to make known...... middle of paper...... a conqueror and showing resilience. These are the two main qualities that our group was able to connect with on a personal level. We admire these qualities because we have all faced hardships in life and experienced things like living in poverty and trying to make ends meet with a single parent. Some of the things Oprah has done in society today, like helping fund the AIDS awareness campaign, have affected all of our lives in one way or another. This had an effect on us because we live in a society where African American men and women are dying every day because they cannot afford the proper treatment and cure for their lives. In summary, Oprah will leave a memorable legacy and has shared her leadership qualities with many people. With her many qualities and legacy, she will leave behind the empowerment she gave to women..
