    Teen SuicideSuicide is a growing problem in American culture. Unfortunately, adolescents are the most affected. Teen suicide is increasing rapidly. “In the United States, approximately 5,000 adolescents commit suicide each year” (Peacock, 4 years old). Teen suicide is a serious and devastating crisis. Today more than ever, teenagers are committing suicide. Teen suicide does not affect a specific type of adolescent; it affects any type of teenager. There are various reasons why teenagers commit suicide. Many people work to prevent teen suicide. Adolescent suicide must be considered a serious problem, analyzed and prevented. Teen suicide affects many adolescents. The number of teenage suicides has tripled since the 1950s (Peacock, 6). It is the third leading cause of death among young people and the second leading cause of death among high school and college students (Schleifer, 7). Suicide is increasing; Many adolescents feel hopeless about the future and take their own lives. A teenager suffering from depression or another mental illness can be fatal (Peacock, 7). Girls are more likely to commit suicide than boys. Girls usually commit suicide by drug overdose, while boys use handguns. Some adolescents have a higher risk of suicide than others (Peacock, 16). Adolescents with different sexuality have a higher risk of suicide than other adolescents. Those who come out often threaten and become outcasts. This problem is growing and needs to be taken more seriously. “Suicide attempts may be the first signs that a teenager is suffering from a mental illness such as depression” (Peacock, 7). Teenagers don't commit suicide for any reason; there is always a cause. Most of the reasons are related to parental divorce. A teenager going through a divorce is overwhelming for them.
