  • Essay / WASH Disaster Relief in Bangladesh - 660

 Conduct an in-depth review of existing approaches among WASH disaster relief organizations. Bangladesh is vulnerable to several natural disasters and natural calamities every year disrupt people's lives in some parts of the country (ref). The major disasters concerned here are the occurrences of floods, cyclones and storm surges, flash floods, drought, tornado and landslide . These extreme natural events are called disasters when they negatively affect the entire environment and cause heavy damage in terms of economic, social and human life (ref). Human vulnerability to any disaster is a complex phenomenon with social, economic, health implications and cultural dimensions. The relationship between natural disasters and communicable diseases is often misinterpreted. The risk of epidemics is high in the chaos that follows natural disasters. However, risk factors for epidemics after disasters are mainly associated with population displacement and damage to infrastructure. The availability of clean water and sanitation facilities, the degree of crowding, the underlying health status of the population, and the availability of health services all interact in the local disease ecology to increase disease risk. communicable diseases and deaths in the affected population. Different Development organizations are currently carrying out WASH interventions in Bangladesh to improve environmental and behavioral factors on community health. The ICDDRB (WASH Benefits Reference and ICVB) initiatives also explore community-friendly WASH infrastructure to increase adoption of WASH services and behaviors. However, none of this research targets highly vulnerable and disaster-prone areas. To fill this gap, we propose in the middle of the document ......e vulnerability to disasters and identify WASH needs. Therefore, we chose to use a conceptual model adapted from Grant et al. 2003 to document the factors that influence vulnerability and WASH needs. Vulnerability to disasters can be influenced by social and environmental moderating factors. WASH vulnerability can be characterized as stressors or mediators. The results of research can inform WASH practices in disaster situations to improve outcomes (health, recovery, infrastructure development, disaster risk reduction, etc.) Works CitedKeim ME: Building human resilience: the role of preparedness and the public health response as adaptation to climate change.
