    According to the Society for Human Resource Management, "In addition to the limitations imposed by the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act, several states have adopted laws that limit the interception and surveillance of social media. (Deschenaux) Thus, the legality of the subject leans in favor of those who wish to remain confidentially public online, although it varies from state to state. For Illinois specifically, the law “prohibits employers from requiring employees or applicants to reveal their usernames or passwords related to social networking sites; also prohibits employers from requiring employees to post their social media profiles for review (2012). Knowing this makes me feel reassured about my future employment prospects, but there are still gaps in other areas of online activity that these laws cannot cover due to the obscure nature of the Internet.
