  • Essay / health care - 816

Is health care a human right? One of the most important priorities in life is to be healthy. Good health is the state of being free from physical illness, mental illness and injury. Health care is an important aspect of our society. Many Americans need it and so it should be provided by the government. Everyone should have the right to health care. Everyone should have the right to a standard standard of living for themselves and their families (Human Rights No. 25). Access to adequate health care is a human right and promotes the “general well-being” of a society; governments should take care of their citizens by providing health care for all. In 2008, 46.3 million people in the United States did not receive health care. Some health services are unaffordable. This is bankrupting Americans: 62.1% of bankruptcies in the United States were related to medical expenses. The United States is one of the few countries that does not guarantee health coverage to its citizens. Some would argue that it is the responsibility of individuals to look after their personal health in order to prevent diseases such as obesity, cancer and diabetes. I agree with this point of view: although obesity, cancer and diabetes can be avoided by adopting a healthy lifestyle, some people are naturally born with diseases like diabetes. Just because you have health coverage doesn't mean you don't have to take the initiative to keep your body healthy. People who are unhealthy and don't take care of themselves put their bodies at risk of developing diseases. An opponent of the right to health care may also argue that professionals may have too many patients and will have to wait longer to be seen. This could cause doctors to become overwhelmed trying to treat several people at once. I understand... middle of document ......c health care and how it affects people and society. Healthcare is the treatment provided by doctors for physical and mental health. Health care can take the form of surgery, dental care, prescription or illness. This is a very important topic if health care is to be considered a right or a privilege. The government's failure to guarantee the right to health care constitutes social injustice. This is because it violates human rights number 25. “We all have the right to an adequate standard of living.” It is a right for people to have normal living conditions. I wanted to explore this topic because I find it very interesting. People are fighting and protesting against the government to support health care. I also wanted to know more about the "Affordable Care Act" (Obama Care) and other opinions on why it should or should not be a right.
