  • Essay / essay review regarding adult-child interaction

    During this semester, we had to make an observation about adult-child interaction. This review essay will briefly explain the interaction that occurred, the comments from both parties, and the importance of theory in the child's language development. So, on November 4, 2013, I had an observation at an early childhood center, SMART LITTLE BEE in Putrajaya. Smart Little Bee is not just an ordinary childhood center, the founder Miss Nor Julia bt Mohammad Nor attempted to implement a new exposure in child education using Montessori theory which has been used in several countries like Australia, United Kingdom and United States. Montessori education is an educational approach developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori. The Montessori approach is designed to support the natural development of children in a well-prepared environment (Early Childhood Education Today, 2011). Children educate themselves through self-directed learning using sensory materials that prompt to promote learning. Children are grouped in multi-age environments and learn by handling materials and working with others. In Malaysia, efforts expanded across the country where the number of childcare centers using the Montessori approach was increasing, particularly in urban areas. In Smart Little Bee, the capacity to accommodate children is limited due to the restricted law for an early childhood center or we called “Taman Asuhan Kanak-kanak (TASKA)” in Malaysia which was built in an environment family. Although the demands of parents are quite high because they can see the differences in orderliness, independent children and self-directed learning in their child. A total of 13 children aged 2 to 6 years were enrolled. There were no classrooms or programs structured by the Ministry of Education.
