    1375-1400. This story includes many aspects of magic and mystery. Sir Gawain is a knight in the court of King Author. At a party, a mysterious huge man, dressed in green, including his skin and horse which were also green, challenged King Author. Sir Gawain takes his place and accepts the challenge. The Green Knight said he could deal just one blow, but he would return the favor in the coming year. Gwaine used his one strike and cut the Green Knight's head off. To their surprise, the Green Knight raised his head and spoke. “For this scalp and this skull now protruded from his fist; he turned to the noblest at the table and he opened his eyelids, looked straight ahead and delivered this speech: “(Sir Gawain and The Green Knight ln.444-447). He said that Sir Gawain should come to him in a year, otherwise he would be considered a coward forever. Not only would Sir Gawain have to face an immortal and magical man, but he would also have to undertake a mysterious journey to find him. During his journey, Gawain is multi-layered and lost, but begins to see a glittering castle hidden by magic. "He stood and looked at one side of that fortress as it sparkled and shone among shimmering oaks, -" (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight ln.771-772). He seeks refuge in this castle when he meets the queen of the castle, who is later revealed to be Morgana the witch, the author king's sister. She used her magic to disguise herself. She gave him a magic belt that would protect him from harm. “For the body that is bound in this green belt, as long as it is securely tied around it, will be safe from anyone who seeks to strike it, and all the wiles of the earth will not see it slain.” (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight ln. 1851-1854). When Sir Gawain finally found the Green Knight, the belt protected him from the fatal blow. Throughout this story, Sir Gawain encounters mysterious characters and is involved in many magical adventures.
