    In today's society, there are still many injustices, whether it concerns freedom of expression or equality between breeds. To change these issues, we must put ourselves forward and inevitably provoke conflicts. This conflict could be something as large as a war between two countries or simply a debate between peers. Whether in the form of arguments or gunfire, people have the opportunity to express themselves and demonstrate their true strength. It may have been imperceptible before, but in times of great conflict, the admirable traits of strength and determination come to the surface for all to see. At the conclusion of Green's "The Quiet American," Thomas Folwer shows his true strength. At first, its neutrality can be considered a weakness. Folwer seems incapable of meeting challenges, even though they may affect him personally. This is demonstrated when Pyle confessed his love for Phuong and Folwer does not express his internalized anger and frustration, leaving Pyle to believe that he took everything "very well". Folwer made no attempt to dissuade him, he simply let Pyle walk all over him and take the only thing he truly cared about.
