  • Essay / Character Analysis of The Glass Castle - 2777

Character Response #1 “I didn’t propose to you,” Dad said, “I told you I was going to marry you.” » (Walls 27) This shows what a determined person Rex is, that he wants to be there for his wife no matter what. This shows that he wants to be a wonderful husband and father and won't back down until he gets what she has. He seems like a confident person and that's the reason why they got married because he had real feelings for Rose Mary and he actually cared about her. Well, I don't know much about him yet, I don't see how much he's really changed, but all I know is that when he proposed to her, he was really confident and he seemed like a genuine person. Rex wasn't just trying to play with her emotions, he actually had real deep feelings for her and Jeanette realized that Glass Castle wasn't going to happen. Over the years, she lost faith in what was supposed to be their home, but now she knows it was a dream to call home. Jeannette wants to leave Welch and graduate in New York, she realizes that the Glass Castle will never be made and that the Glass Castle was an unrealistic and broken dream that would not have come true. This was how they wanted to live but she understood that it was an impossible dream that would not come true. Even though Rex builds the Glass Castle, he said not to build it for me, she has lost faith in the whole plan and she knows she needs to move on with her life and not be attached to it anymore. After he left, the glass castle was left behind and the whole family moved out of it. Phoenix, Arizona “The front yard had a palm tree and the back yard had orange trees. I particularly liked the palm tree, the tree…. There were also sacred back and oleander bushes with pink and white. Jeannette somehow found a boy her age who likes her, but he caused her some problems. Like when he felt up against her and invaded her personal space. Lori, Jeanette, and Brian had a hard time fitting in because of their looks, so it was really hard to make real friends. Eventually they got used to it, but people were cruel to them and they had many arguments with neighbors and other people. This place toughened them and made them realize how much their lives had to change. The whole family came to the conclusion that they had to fight back so that people wouldn't wander everywhere.
