    The world's first extradition agreement was created in 1259 BCE by Ramesses II of Egypt and the Hittites. The agreement required Ramesses and the Hittites to send back criminals and political figures who attempted to flee to the other side. Since then, extraditions have become bilateral agreements between nations to transfer criminals from one country to another. Extradition is requested when a person commits a crime in the country requesting extradition. The extradition request includes: description of the individual, information about the case, and the laws relating to the case. Each country must agree to extradite each other for the process to take place. Canada only has fifty-one Canadian treaties with other countries. This article will argue that extradition laws in Canada are too lax due to section 7 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the need to obtain guarantees that the death penalty will not be used. Section 7 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms states that every person has the “right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof, except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice ". It is therefore often used as a deterrent so that individuals do not have to be extradited to another In the following case, United States v.
