  • Essay / Advertising paper - 1000

Who doesn't like coke? Coca-Cola has been around for many years. It is a favorite drink of many people around the world. In the old advertising, coke only cost five cents. Although the prices have changed since then, the wonderful flavor remains the same. Both ads show creativity and do a fantastic job of promoting Coke. Many details were added to these coke advertisements; however, the old one is superior to the new one because it makes better use of the elements: focal point, figures used, artistic choices, function decisions, and typeface options. The focal point of modern advertising seemed much more cluttered and was not. doesn't stand out as much as the old Coca-Cola ad. The focal point is said to be seen in a left-to-right and top-to-bottom reading pattern. The focal point of an image can be described as what first catches the viewer's eye. For modern day advertising, Taylor Swift represents Coke. At first, she attracts all the attention. Then, after seeing it, the viewer realizes that there are two Taylor Swifts and that half of the image is upside down. This makes the image confusing and the viewer has to concentrate to understand what is happening in the image. Not only is it confusing because she's upside down, but there are way too many patterns on her clothes. This makes the image cluttered and the viewer may have difficulty keeping their attention in one place because there is too much going on in the image. The old coke ad seems to have a more realistic focal point. In this image there is the phrase at the top that says: "Send thirst flying." With the normal left-to-right and top-to-bottom reading pattern, it is the sentence that first catches the viewer's attention. After noticing this, the focus turns to the woman...... middle of paper ......rs that if she chooses to drink Coke, she will be happy like the woman shown in the photo. Overall, decisions about function can have a huge impact on how an advertising element is presented. Many people around the world choose Coca-Cola as their favorite soda. In the past and today, Coke has done a remarkable job of providing advertisements to maintain their product. In these advertisements there was a clear central point. The numbers in these two announcements could easily be noted. The artistic choices that were made helped convey the overall message. However, the font of the words also helps to make them stand out. Finally, both pieces were clearly designed to help viewers interpret function decisions. Although these two pieces show all of these elements, the old advertisement did a better job, making it superior to modern advertising..
