    The Moving Beyond Pity & Inspiration: Disability as a social Justice Issue by Eli Clare took place on April 16, 2014. Thinking about disability before this talk, I feel like I had a general idea of ​​the things Eli was talking about. I attended a school where more than half the students were disabled. I've been hearing the terms and stereotypes he mentioned since sixth grade. We began by stating some of the positive and negative stereotypes associated with children with disabilities. The negative stereotypes were so disheartening to know that children have to endure these kinds of issues due to a disability they cannot control. Some negative stereotypes mentioned by conference attendees were citizens being powerless, lower class, invisible, or watered down. These are just a few of the items mentioned. I realize that these negative stereotypes are exactly what teachers try not to show to their peers. You don't want your peers to think you have a "watered down degree" and that school work is easier than theirs when it actually isn't. The work is not made easier, it is simply presented to students in a different form....
