    Burr wanted to build his own territory in the American South, so he headed West to form an army to launch his conspiracy. Soon after, word spread and Jefferson was informed of Burr's plan. Jefferson sent a posse to arrest him, and in Richmond, Virginia, Burr was arrested and charged with treason. He must then appear in court. While Jefferson should have won this case, he launched personal attacks against Chief Justice John Marshal throughout the trial. The jury found Burr not guilty and he returned to Europe. Jefferson should have won this race, but his stupidity took over.
