  • Essay / Military aircraft and wars - 595

War, war never changes. Or is it? Over time, people increasingly sought to increase and improve their military prowess. One of these emergences was the war plane. It appeared on the battlefield just over 100 years ago and completely changed the scope of war. From its slow beginnings to the permanent place it occupies today, the plane has become a legend of the battlefield, a sight that is either terrifying or heartwarming. The plane has expected many changes over its time, and it probably will in the future, but if there's one thing for sure, it's that the world has adapted to them. The airplane's place in the military dates back to 1911. That year, during a war between Italy and Turkey, Italy had the brilliant idea of using aviation technology to continue its campaign by dropping grenades from one of his monoplanes (Unikoski). Once World War I broke out, about a decade after the exodus of airplanes as an invention, the role of airplanes in the world changed dramatically. All sides of the war became aware of this growing phenomenon, with things like the fact that 140 French planes at the start of the war becoming something close to 4,500 by the end became commonplace (Unikoski). Yet fighter jet technology was primitive. It was not until the Second World War that airplanes truly revolutionized their field. Countries began to implement intelligent aerodynamics, durable, effective and efficient materials, and powerful and precise weapons to gain an advantage in the new war (Fighter). The aircraft also began to take on reconnaissance roles during this period. The results of this refined attention to detail were immediate and solidified the role of aircraft in the war. Further improvements took place between then and mode...... middle of paper ... technology advanced enough to produce the aircraft needed to match and even surpass the strength and strategy of their adversaries on the field of battle. “Fighter/attack aircraft.” -CombatAircraft.com.
