    Whistleblowing Whistleblowing is an attempt by an employee or former employee of a company to reveal what they believe to be wrongdoing in or by a company or organization. Whistleblowing attempts to make others aware of practices considered illegal or immoral. If the wrongdoing is reported to someone within the company, it is said to be internal. Internal whistleblowing tends to cause less damage to the company. There are also external denunciations. This is where wrongdoing is reported to the media and brought to public attention. This type of whistleblowing tends to have a negative impact on the company due to bad publicity. Whistleblowing is said to be personal if the wrongdoing affects only the whistleblower (such as sexual harassment), and impersonal if the wrongdoing affects other people. Many people denounce the actions for two main reasons: morality and revenge. Morality is the most important and best reason for this act, because people generally want to do the right moral thing. If a person is going to blow the whistle on a company, they need to know that for every action there is a reaction, and the whistleblowing reaction can lead to termination. One of the most controversial types of whistleblowing is the one that is impersonal. If a company makes unsafe products because it is trying to save a few dollars, an employee might view this as immoral and speak out to the public. The whistleblower would act in this way by relying on Kant's theory. It would be following the moral law to do so. If a company is cutting corners and harming others, it would be morally wrong not to report that company. Knowingly letting innocent people get hurt because of something you could have stopped is morally wrong. Many people would report a company that makes dangerous products, but not all. A number of people did not want to inform the public of the company's wrongdoing. They wouldn't do it for fear of losing their jobs or even being blacklisted from the industry. If they are not fired, they will most likely be kicked out of their jobs and passed over when it comes time for promotion.
