    A hiccup is a spasm of your diaphragm. When this happens, your vocal cords, also called the epiglottis, close and a strange sound comes out of your mouth, sounding like a "hiccup" or "hiccup." Although these sounds can be annoying, they usually only last a short time and disappear on their own (Science Mueseum, 2014). There are different types of hiccups you can have. The first and most common type is hiccups. It lasts from a few seconds to a few days. The next one is persistent hiccups. This type lasts from a few days to a month. The last type, and the least common, is intractable hiccups. These are very rare and last a year or more (Fun Trivia, 2014). There are many reasons why we have hiccups. First, when we eat too much or too quickly, we get hiccups. Then, if there is an irritation, such as an itch, in your throat or stomach, you might have hiccups.
