There is so much about apartheid and the struggle that I don't know. Before watching the video, I had no idea who Ruth First was. The life and death of Ruth First is an essential part of the history of apartheid. The way she fought for black people and the way she was killed shocked me to the core. The horrific violence and hatred was not only directed against black people, but against all white people who supported black people. Although the video focuses largely on his life, I would like to know more about other black South African leaders who fought against apartheid. Many black people lost their lives in this battle and were not remembered in the history books and videos we watched. I hope to interact with individuals in real communities and learn about their leaders and the individuals who fought on a more micro level.
