I recently visited Thailand a few months ago. It was probably the best trip this year. We went to the typical Thai tourist places where all the tourists go when they visit Thailand; The Grand Palace, Temples and I also visited Chiangmai. I have visited many Asian countries in the past. I go back to Korea to visit my family from time to time, but I have never been to Thailand. Bangkok is a very easy place to get around. There are many different types of transportation. The most interesting would be the tuktuk which is similar to rickshaws in India. However, these tuktuks do not have a meter, so the driver may charge you a very high price and Thais generally do not speak English. I read a lot about it online, so I figured it would be better to learn some basic Thai before going to Thailand. I was surprised when the taxi driver asked me “where are you going?” ". So I thought maybe only taxi drivers know how to speak English, but then I realized that many Thai people in Thailand know how to speak English, even street vendors! I also learned that Thais have their own number. Each number has its own character. Here are the numbers 1 to 9 and 0 in Thai. Numbers are very similar to their characters. I've also tried writing them down, but it's a lot harder than it looks. Before going to Thailand, I didn't know they had their own number. I met a friend in Thailand who showed me around. Every time we went to different places, he would tell me not to talk. He told me that the entrance fees for foreigners are higher than those for Thais. To achieve this, they put Thai entry fees in Thai figures and foreign entry fees in the normal figures we know. So, being the middle of the article, coming back to the subject of rice, in Chiangmai the staple diet is actually glutinous rice which is very different in texture. Obviously, based on the name, it's sticky but also more gooey and nourishing. In Chiang Mai, we eat with our hands! It reminds me a lot of Laos and India. Looking back on the trip to Loas last year, I feel like Chiangmai and Loas have a lot in common. So if you have been to Loas and you like it, you should also visit Chiangmai Thailand. Overall, Thailand was a successful trip! The people were so nice. There are probably a lot of things I left out in this blog post today, but I just wanted to give you an overview of my experience. If you would like to see some of the images I took during my stay, the link to that video will be below. I'll keep you posted and talk to you soon! In the meantime, live your life like there's no tomorrow.
