  • Essay / Society Stifles True Love - 709

How would you feel if you were in love with someone but society doesn't think you should be together and your families don't love each other at all? For example, in the play Romeo and Juliet, society did not help their love and their families did not love each other and it ended in their death. Juliet's family, the Capulets, wanted Juliet to marry a charming man named Paris. They thought he was a very nice man but they wanted him to marry her when she was finally old enough to marry because she was only 13 years old. After a while, even though her parents really wanted her to marry Paris, she didn't want to marry him. however, and her father had told her that if she did not marry him, he would disown her. “But if you don’t marry, I will forgive you. Graze where you want, you will not lodge with me. Look at it, think about it; I don't usually joke. Thursday is near; lay your hand on your heart, advise: and be mine. I will give you to my friend; If you are not, beg, starve, die in the streets” (3.4 215-220). Secondly, her parents, Romeo's parents and family didn't like each other at all, there was no way her parents would approve of her being married to Romeo. Ultimately, her parents are a big part of her death, because if they hadn't wanted her and Paris to get married, she could have just been secretly married to Romeo without them knowing, or without whether they know it, or without them pressuring her to marry another person. Montague did not play a large role in the cause of their deaths. One reason is that they didn't like the Capulet family, they wouldn't have approved of Romeo marrying Juliet, so he didn't want to tell them or make them angry. Although if Romeo's family had loved the... middle of paper ...... the country. Oh, he's a charming gentleman! (3.5 241-247). Although her opinion did not change Juliette's mine at all, this poem was a good example of how if your love cannot be accepted by society, there is a good chance that it will end in a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet had to keep their love a secret because their parents did not want to accept it, leading to Romeo and Juliet's deaths. If their love had been accepted by their families and by society, they would have lived together happily. To conclude, I think no matter who you love you should follow through, if there is conflict try to do anything to stop that conflict or change it because that would help a lot.
