  • Essay / The Breakfast Club - 905

The Breakfast Club movie is based on a group of five teenagers who serve Saturday school together for bad behavior. Each of the children shows up with a parent and the parent tells them how they feel about the situation, but the child never reacts to the situation. It is presented that parents are all concerned about themselves and not their children or their well-being. The children arrive at school and find themselves inside the library where they must serve time as punishment for their individual bad behavior. The principal steps in and states the rules for the day and his attitude is not very appropriate for his position in the school. He talks to the students as if they are adults who are not expected to go anywhere in their future lives. He is particularly harsh towards Bender and does not try to hide his feelings. At the start of the film, Claire is the first to be dropped off. Her father tells her it's for the deficient but she's not deficient for skipping school to go shopping. This is permissive parenting. She explains throughout the film how her parents contradict everyone's rules so that she doesn't have to follow any of them. She doesn't know how to behave, so she's part of the popular crowd. She wears what they wear and follows them in everything they do. She also ignores the people below her because the popular crowd doesn't talk to the non-popular kids at her school. She feels like her parents are using her and that they don't want her. She tries to fit in because she wants a family that loves her and has standards. Clair is a gentle soul who tries to get by, but her family situation doesn't allow it. She has to stay strong because of her parents. When Brian was dropped off at school in the morning......in the middle of a sheet of paper......emotions throughout the day they had spent together in the library. Brian's essay reflects their feelings about how they feel about their home and life and how they feel included among the other students at their school. The essay was inspiring because it showed through words the true feelings of each of the five students. They wanted it to be known that they are people with real feelings and thoughts that they would like to express. They said they were more than a nerd, a locker, a popular girl, an athlete or a troublemaker. The essay that Brian presented to the group speaks loudly to every single student in this library as well as every other student in every school around the world. This movie can help children around the world understand their current problems and situations and possibly help them get through a difficult time in their life while growing up..
