  • Essay / God Sees the Truth but Waits - 1254

The short story “God Sees the Truth, but Waits” is a fantastic read that effectively demonstrates the many elements of a short story. Through the elements of the short story, the author, Leo N. Tolstoy, shares his wisdom and knowledge of a complex society and, in a way, highlights its flaws in a short story for many to learn from. lessons. Tolstoy conveys his ideas through the minds and actions of characters, as well as through setting, plot conflicts, and point of view. The story begins by describing the setting, in a town named after Vladimir. The town itself doesn't seem to be of the utmost importance, but the setting throughout the novel might be. Throughout the novel, the main character is a trader and travels from town to town. This merchant experiences an unfortunate turn of events and the settings change drastically. The merchant is placed in a prison located in Siberia, making for one of the most important settings in the story. In the short story, Tolstoy has a few characters, each of whom has their place in the story. The first of them, Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov, is the main character of the story. He is the protagonist of this story. He starts out as a wealthy businessman, owning a few stores and his own house. He encountered unfortunate events after going on a business trip. Along the way, during the trip, he was accused of murder. It was enough to be accused alone for Aksionov to end up in a Siberian prison for the rest of his life. Perhaps another very important character, Ivan Aksionov's wife, has some interesting comments before Aksionov leaves on a business trip. She told Aksionov that she had had a dream, or even a nightmare. In this dream, she told Aksionov that he was coming back to town with very gray hair. It seemed scary... middle of paper ... and knowing the truth, he can wait until he thinks it's the right time to act. Although there are many different interpretations of the theme, the theme of God deciding whether it is time or not seems to stand out the most. Through Tolstoy's story, the reader indirectly learns about the society in which the story takes place. The justice systems are not the best, as it seems like it would be easy to be accused of a crime even if that person was not the perpetrator. Tolstoy presented this superb short story, which effectively demonstrates the many key elements of a short story. All of these elements are present in the story and help Tolstoy convey his ideas as well as his beliefs through the story. This short story effectively captures the reader's attention, while taking into account all the elements of an effective short story..
