  • Essay / Development of Pyramids in History - 1280

Pyramids are one of the ancient architectural structures known to man. They were built as tombs for pharaohs and queens. For a layman, when we talk about a pyramid, we automatically assume that it is about the Egyptians. Although one of the hallmarks of the Egyptians was the pyramid, the Mesopotamians were the first to build a staircase-like pyramid structure. These elevated buildings were known as Ziggurats. The ziggurat was the major architectural structure of the founders of the Mesopotamian civilization (3500 and 3000 BCE); “the Sumerians”. Ziggurats were built using sun-dried baked stone, which prevented it from lasting longer, like the pyramids of Egypt. The most famous of these was King Urnammu's Ziggurat at Ur in Iraq, although it is not as old as that at Giza. The lower levels of the ziggurats are covered with planted trees and earth just to give it a mountainous effect. There is a belief that gods lived on mountains, thus bringing worshipers closer to heaven. At the time, only powerful priests were allowed to enter ziggurats. The most famous pyramids are in Egypt, also known as the Great Pyramids. They were built of hard stone, glazed with limestone. It was a time of reflection on the ancient kingdom of Egypt (2686-2181 BCE) on its political and social stability. Although it may have been rumored that slaves were responsible for building the pyramids in Egypt, it was later confirmed that it was an effort by various craftsmen and builders in general. The Egyptians' great success with the pyramids proved that they were united. In the ancient kingdom, before the pyramids were built, there were tombs structured to bury those in high positions. these mountainous structures housed the spirits of their ancestors. The Mexicans also had similar structures, but these can be compared to the Sumerian ziggurats of Mesopotamia. Stacked pyramid-shaped pyramids similar to those built by Imhotep in Egypt can be compared to those in Spain, although they are built of lava stone. They could have been dated to the 19th century; These pyramids were destroyed because of the materials used for construction. The Mexicans, for their part, used their pyramids for human sacrifices. However, South Indians used their pyramids for religious purposes, serving as sacred temples. From the pyramid of Khufu to the present day, like the pyramids found in France. Structures based on pyramids have been proven through research and are used all over the world. Works Cited http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid
