Evaluating SourcesModern Japan: A Historical Study is written by author Mikiso Hane. This book was published in 1986 by Westview Press, Inc. in Colorado. Mikiso Hane was a specialist in Japanese history who gained international recognition for his work. He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in history from Yale University and became an acclaimed professor emeritus of history who worked at Yale, the University of Toledo, and Knox College. Not only did he teach Japanese history, but he also taught Chinese, Russian, Indian and Western history. He also traveled to Germany and Japan to conduct research after receiving his doctorate. As a child, he left Hollister, California, where he was born in 1922, to settle in Japan. During the war, he returned to the United States and was sent to a Japanese internment camp. However, he earned money teaching Japanese at Yale to be able to finance his college education. Hane is the author of 14 books, educational articles, and academic textbooks, many of which are his highly respected works. He also became a member of the National Council for his widely respected contributions to the humanities. Modern Japan: A Historical Survey focuses on economic, political, and social developments discussing how they shaped modern Japan. An example would be that it describes how economic growth during the 1950s and 1960s had a positive impact on social groups and how social groups benefited from the rise of the economy. This is a secondary source and the audience is academic colleagues. This source was produced with the aim of analyzing how political, economic and social developments have shaped modern Japan. The value of this source is that the author focuses on analyzing all aspects of Japan...... middle of article... ...the audience is specialists in Japanese history . This source is valuable because it provides an analysis of developments in modern Japan focusing on social, industrial, and political aspects. It provides graphics that highlight and visualize the written content and the book lists other sources that contributed to its content. It also contains little bias because the author is a historian. This author is very reliable because he has a doctorate in history and has studied Japanese history. This source has personal value for my research because it is very simple, provides facts and data, and focuses on my topic. However, this is a secondary source, so the limitations are that the author was not in Japan when it was developing. It only covers some aspects of the development of modern Japan, not all aspects are covered in this book..
