  • Essay / The success of Bon Jovi's album "Slippery When Wet"

You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone over the age of 25 who hasn't heard at least one song by the New Jersey band, Bon Jovi. The band formed in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey, consisting of vocalist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres. Since the band's formation, they have been making music for 30 years. Before 1986, Bon Jovi released two albums: Bon Jovi (1984) and 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit (1985). They managed to build a fairly stable fan base from these two albums, although these albums were not as successful in the mainstream rock market as their third album, Slippery When Wet. Slippery When Wet, was the third album released by Bon Jovi. . The release date was August 18, 1986 on Mercury Records. This album is the group's best-selling album, with more than twelve million sold in the United States alone! The album also became number twenty-one on the list of best-selling studio albums of all time. The first song is “Let It Rock”. This song was written by Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi. This song is up tempo and, like most of the songs on this album, has an interesting sound that comes from the use of the keyboard. The song begins with a keyboard solo, then the other instruments join in harmony to establish the rhythm and tempo. The electric guitar uses distortion to add some interest to riffs and solos. The song is a verse/chorus organization and is also an endless loop with the music fading out at the end of the five minutes. The second song is “You Give Love A Bad Name”. This song opens with just the vocals proclaiming, "You touched the heart and you're to blame, darling, you give love a bad name." » Then the instruments arrive...... middle of paper ......ack is in tempo, with the guitar, keyboards and drums. It's a verse/chorus song that makes great use of all the rock elements. This was written by Jon Bon Jovi and Garland Jefferys. With the intro and ending of the instrumental song, the harmony between the instruments is very important. Bon Jovi's execution on this track was just fine. Slippery When Wet has to be one of my favorite albums! I think a lot of these songs had the ability to speak to the generations that followed the initial release. It's rare to find a CD on which you want to listen to all the songs consecutively, but this is one of them. New generations listen to the band's new releases, but I know that many come back and listen to this album, which in the reviews on the Bon Jovi website, is described as "epic". That's exactly how I feel about all these songs.
