  • Essay / Love at first sight is not real - 737

Love at first sight is often mentioned in many films like 21 First Dates, where Adam Sandler meets Drew Barrymore and he has to make her fall in love with him every day , however, in reality, it is almost impossible to meet the man of your dreams when there are over 2 billion men in the world. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo falls in love with Juliet, finally “at first sight”. But love at first sight is not entirely real because in the play, two characters tell Romeo and Juliet to be careful with their actions. This is seen when Friar Laurence repeatedly tells Romeo to love moderately and when Juliet's nurse threatens Romeo not to rule Juliet. Additionally, Juliette's own nurse tells her that she made a bad choice in a man. “Love at first sight is not real” In Friar Laurence's cell, he warns Romeo that the fasting love will end after Romeo asks the Friar to marry him to Juliet. Friar Laurence tries to imply that love takes time and does not happen spontaneously. Shakespeare deliberately foreshadows this scene, clearly implying that love at first sight is not real and that the relationship between Romeo and Juliet will not last. For example, The Brother says: These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, which, embracing each other, are consumed. The sweetest honey is loathsome in its own delight and in its taste confounds the appetite. Therefore, love moderately: long love does so: too fast comes as late as too slow. (II.VI.9-15) It is clear that even the brother knows that his love has won it does not last. He says that it takes time for love to become strong and that Romeo and Juliet clearly don't have any free time. Brother Laurence is the town priest, so he has married couples before, but in...... middle of paper...... office. He is a Montague, Juliet is a Capulet; it will never work. For example, Tybalt (Juliet's cousin who was killed by Romeo) died because Juliet chose to marry Romeo. If Juliet had stayed away from Romeo, Tybalt would still be alive. Also, Juliet has only seen Romeo maybe 2 or 3 times, is she really in love? Or is she like Romeo, only in love with her beauty. Even in the supposed love story of Romeo and Juliet (which is more like a tragedy), love at first sight is called into question. Juliette's nurse and Verona's priest know that their love is taboo and focused on looks. With tones of allusions, warnings, and foreshadowing, Romeo and Juliet's "love" will not last long. How would you react if you saw your “true love”? Would you blame Romeo for marrying Juliet “from the start”? or would you side with the nurse and the brother?
